Biography

There is a computer called the City

It's powered by the electric stage performances of bands like Wintersleep and Metric as it processes the soulful digital expression of Boy In Static and Junior Boys producing an electrifying digital rock ensemble sharing the same name. The City brings technology to the stage and the studio, combining pop-rock sensibilities and digital production to create its highly anticipated self-titled EP (February 2008): a bevy of crowd pleasers, lead by the first single "Population Control".

Newfoundland songwriters meet Toronto producers…
Paul and David meet Andrew and Brian… an introduction that brought together two autonomous duos through a mutual friend in the Fall of 2007, and over a night of heavy drinking and long conversations about shared musical tastes they became the City. Though the band as an entity is new, all four members bring vast amounts of experience; within the City, these four have seen it all.

They've experienced success by selling close to 1000 albums, being nominated for a Toronto Independent Music Award for best rock act, and having a single finish 1 on garageband.com, winning an award for Most Original in Rock.

They've experienced the media with positive reviews coming from internet blogs and magazines, radio interviews in Toronto, Montreal and California and further airplay on college, community and commercial stations in Canada, the US, Europe and Australia.

They've worked with big names in the music industry including studio work with James Heidebrecht and Chris Cobain of Chemical Sound Studio (The Weakerthans, Tokyo Police Club and Sloan), sharing the stage with inspiring acts such as Death From Above 1979 and The Dears, and performing at infamous venues like The Arts & Culture Centre in Newfoundland, Zaphod's in Ottawa, The Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto, Red's Entertainment Complex in Edmonton, and even to the legendary CBGB's in New York City just before they closed their doors for good.

Drawing on all of this experience the City is exploding onto the indie-rock scene. They are working their way across Southern Ontario, promoting their debut EP and teaming up with popular bands like Canada's own Sunriser and Ireland's Angel Pier in the Winter of 2008.
